Global Martini is a pictorial blog of a dapper gentleman's journey through life with a martini in hand. Global Martini would like to say "Cheers!" to the Olympic athletes who have trained hard and dreamed big. We wish them all the best in Sochi. (However, Global Martini will not extend its "Chill" approval to President Putin and his homophobic laws. ) This dry vodka martini, straight-up with olives, was enjoyed at Orizontes Restaurant, located atop Lycabettus Hill, the highest point in Athens, Greece. The lit stadium in the background is the Olympic Stadium, home to the first modern Olympic Games held in Athens in 1896. May the Olympic spirit endure for generations to come! Cheers! The Temptress Martini is our first martini recipe shared by The Club Member Elizabeth Petrakis from Halkida, Greece. (For more of her delicious dessert recipes, check out her Facebook page Cupcakes.etc. ) Elizabeth's Temptress martini features the kumquat, which is a small citrusy fruit famous for its fragrant peel and a deep orange color. Vodka is the perfect conduit to convey the kumquat's flavor in a cool, straight-up way. She garnishes the martini with a sprig of arbaroriza, which is a scented geranium plant commonly found in Greece and Cyprus. For those who don't have access to arbaroriza, Elizabeth adds that a sprig of rosemary is an excellent substitute. Ingredients: 3 kumquats, one sliced in half Sprig of arbaroriza (pictured) or rosemary 0.2 oz. Triple sec 3 oz. Vodka 1.5 oz. dry Vermouth Combine sliced kumquat, arbaroriza (or rosemary), and Triple sec in a cocktail shaker. Press the leaves and kumquat slices against the bottom of the shaker using a muddler, or back of a wooden spoon, to release the flavors; add ice, vermouth and vodka. Shake vigorously until thoroughly chilled. Strain into a chilled martini glass. Garnish with two remaining kumquats on a skewer and the sprig of abaroriza or rosemary.
