Actress Greta Nissen was a Norwegian starlet who rose to stardom during the silent-movie era in Hollywood. In what has become a very typical story, fortune turned against her when Hollywood switched to the talkies, and her thick Norwegian accent becomes a liability. She was originally cast as the leading lady in Howard Hughes's Hells Angels (1930) but lost the part due to her thick Norwegian accent. thus giving the18-year-old Jean Harlow her big break when Hughes gave her the part. This classic photograph of Nissen by photographer Carl Devoy gets the Global Martini "Chill" Approval. Cheers to old Hollywood glamour!
